Panoramic Test 20 April, 2007

Using a simple travel tripod and a level. I have attempted to create a panoramic image by stitching several images together. In this first attempt, I have taken 4 images from the same posit on and have linked them at the edges.

There are several problems with this method. First the lens has a natural curve to it (depending on focal length). So linking the edges of an image will not properly align all the horizontal and vertical lines (see the circled yellow).

Second, there is a tremendous amount of photo editing required to correct all the line errors in the image.

Last, if one of the images is not perfectly framed, all of the remaining images to the left (2 in this case) will be severely misaligned and cannot be used.

Further exploration will be coming...
